{"id":77230,"date":"2026-08-22T21:17:27","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T21:17:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/77230\/"},"modified":"2026-08-22T21:17:27","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T21:17:27","slug":"allianz-rejects-allegation-that-it-is-complicit-in-genocide-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/77230\/","title":{"rendered":"Allianz rejects allegation that it is complicit in genocide \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Sir, \u2013 We wish to correct a number of inaccuracies and mischaracterisations contained in recent correspondence concerning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/allianz\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/allianz\/\">Allianz<\/a> Ireland\u2019s long-standing partnership with the GAA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Allianz unequivocally rejects the allegation that it is complicit in genocide. We reject, in their entirety, the exceptionally serious allegations contained in the July 2025 report of the UN special rapporteur on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/palestine\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/palestine\/\">Palestine<\/a> Francesca Albanese as they relate to Allianz. They are not supported by the facts, fundamentally mischaracterise Allianz\u2019s role and activities, and we reject the report\u2019s methodology and conclusions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Allianz does not accept the proposition that individual financial institutions should unilaterally determine which sovereign states may participate in global financial markets. That authority rests with democratically accountable governments, international institutions and the courts. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Where sanctions or legal restrictions are imposed, financial institutions are required to comply. Where they are not, they are required to operate lawfully and in accordance with their fiduciary and regulatory obligations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The correspondence in The Irish Times (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/opinion\/letters\/2026\/08\/05\/gaas-denial-of-basic-facts-concerning-relationship-of-allianz-ireland-with-parent-company-is-a-stain-on-the-organisation\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/opinion\/letters\/2026\/08\/05\/gaas-denial-of-basic-facts-concerning-relationship-of-allianz-ireland-with-parent-company-is-a-stain-on-the-organisation\/\">Letters, August 5th<\/a>) contains a factual error by conflating Allianz Group and Allianz plc (Ireland).  We have expressly acknowledged that Allianz Group was referenced in Albanese\u2019s report. Separately, iwe explained that Allianz plc (Ireland) had no investments or underwriting activities in the Middle East. Those are distinct factual statements and are entirely consistent. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The correspondence also states that Allianz Group is \u201cthe biggest non-Israeli institutional holder of Israeli sovereign debt\u201d. We would welcome the evidence on which that assertion is based. If it is derived from the same data set cited in a recent Middle East news outlet, its authors expressly acknowledge that it is neither comprehensive nor capable of capturing the full sovereign debt market. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Allianz will continue to comply fully with every applicable legal, ethical and regulatory requirement and to discharge its fiduciary obligations.
