It was designed, engineered and assembled entirely in Brazil to replace the long-serving Saveiro, and its main target is the Fiat Strada. The range includes two body styles, the single-cab for buyers who need a bed and nothing more, and the double-cab for those who want to haul the family on weekends.

The styling follows what VW has been doing across its current SUV range, with the edges hardened up for pickup duty. The LED headlights borrow their shape from the EU-market Tiguan and give the Tukan a sharper face, while the lower bumper is finished in black with a honeycomb insert running across it.

More: VW Plans An American-Built Pickup Before The Decade Ends

VW Tukan Extreme

The profile is characterized by the squared off wheel arches, the generous plastic cladding on the doors, and the sculpted fenders. At the back, we find vertical LED taillights and a large tailgate extending deep into the rear bumper.

The two-door single-cab truck puts cargo space first and was shown in entry-level Robust spec, unpainted bumpers and all. The four-door dual-cab sits at the opposite end of the range with a shorter bed and flagship Extreme trim, which brings the new Canary Yellow paint, dark alloy wheels, full LED lighting and a built-in sports bar.

A T-Cross Underneath, Sort Of

VW Tukan Extreme

The Tukan is built around a reworked version of the MQB unibody architecture that underpins the VW T-Cross subcompact SUV, which accounts for the shared hardpoints. It’s the first MQB vehicle to run rear leaf springs, a setup that allows for more payload than a conventional torsion beam axle.

According to VW, prototypes of the Tukan covered over 2 million km (1.2 million miles) in testing. The automaker hasn’t revealed the detailed specifications, but we know that the pickup will be offered with a mild-hybrid turbo 1.5-liter TSI four-cylinder engine alongside the traditional flex-fuel options.

VW Tukan Robust

Production of the Tukan will take place at Volkswagen’s São José dos Pinhais plant in Paraná, Brazil, with 76% locally sourced components. Official deliveries in South American markets are scheduled to begin during the first half of 2027, pitting the pickup mainly against similarly sized rivals such as the Fiat Strada and Chevrolet Montana rather than the larger Ford Maverick and Ram Rampage.

More: Chevy’s Cheapest Pickup Just Got Better But It’s Still Off Limits Here

The compact pickup is part of Volkswagen’s R$ 20 billion ($3.9 billion) investment in the region, which covers 21 new model launches by 2028.

The new Tukan will be manufactured in Brazil, offering single and double-cab body styles and a mild-hybrid powertrain…

[20947
387,3239,20991,4690,1288,4795,5356,8369,56902,56903
post-77594","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-volkswagen","tag-brazil","tag-hybrids","tag-new-cars","tag-south-america","tag-trucks","tag-video","tag-volkswagen","tag-vw","tag-vw-tukan","tag-vw-videos
["GET
