That’s because of the protagonists. One of them is the ubiquitous American muscle car in the format provided by Stellantis: the L-bodied Dodge Challenger. It’s been in production from 2008 to late 2023 as a full-size two-door notchback coupe with a serious and sporty retro-modern design. Versions abound, and of course one of the best-known is the supercharged Hemi V8-powered Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

On the other hand is the Bavarian executive sport compact sedan, the BMW M3, with the latest iteration based on the BMW 3 Series, G80 and G81 (M3 Touring) appearing in 2020 with the legendary BMW S58 turbocharged straight-six engine under the hood and the easily-recognizable vertical kidney grille. Their exploits, as they happened over quite a few years, have become legendary.

As such, the situation where a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat meets and brawls with the most recent BMW M3 has become a sort of America versus Bavaria tradition at the local quarter-mile dragstrip, including The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. So, let’s get on with the action.

The first skirmish involves the BMW M3 sedan and the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat dressed in two of my least-favorite colors: that dreary dark gray and black, which is actually a very nice color but ultra-hard to maintain pristine. Anyway, they line up for a clash of titans and semi-deliver because one of them makes a glorious comeback after initially seeming lost in translation.

However, the results aren’t overly impressive: 12.3s at 116 mph for the comeback driver and only 12.79s for the losing side. The second battle involving the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and a BMW M3 sedan happens with white knights in shiny armor. This one is just as animated from start to finish, as one of the drivers again loses the initial tempo but recovers along the way.

Alas, this time around, the comeback is futile: the other driver remained faster and crossed the finish line first despite posting the slower ET: 11.82s at 118 mph versus 11.79s at 122 mph. Now, let’s check out what happened and who’s who!

As for what comes next for the two protagonists, it seems that the Bavarians have the upper hand. Reportedly, the next-generation BMW M3 will arrive on the market with both ICE and EV models, thus aiming to satisfy all ends of the market without losing the sales tempo. Meanwhile, Stellantis has retired the Dodge Challenger nameplate at the end of 2023, and now people have to sign up for a four-door sedan or a two-door fastback coupe version of the eighth-generation Dodge Charger.

The videographer behind the “Wheels” channel on YouTube is a big fan of The Strip at Las Vegas…

[20955
6213,22861,55705,57100,29388,57102,57101,57103
post-77819","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-bmw","tag-bmw","tag-bmw-m3","tag-dodge","tag-dodge-challenger-srt-hellcat","tag-drag-race","tag-las-vegas-motor-speedway","tag-the-strip","tag-wheels
["GET
