{"id":77836,"date":"2026-08-24T09:01:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T09:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/77836\/"},"modified":"2026-08-24T09:01:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T09:01:21","slug":"gary-woodland-topped-a-tee-shot-at-bmw-championship-2026-final-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/77836\/","title":{"rendered":"Gary Woodland topped a tee shot at BMW Championship 2026 final round"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Updated Aug. 23, 2026, 8:19 p.m. ET<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Gary Woodland picked a bad time to look like one of us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Woodland cold-topped his tee shot at the 436-yard, par 4 ninth hole at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis on Sunday in the final round of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/golf\/pga\/leaderboard\/5008435\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">BMW Championship<\/a>, the second leg of the <a data-autotag=\"e13e5562-2c23-42c1-b3b8-d1f86ca9977b\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/golf\/pga\/fedex-cup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">FedEx Cup<\/a> Playoffs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">&#8220;I haven&#8217;t done that in a long, long time,&#8221; he said, already able to laugh at himself.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:441px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/91433511007-20260823-t-181455-z-320821943-mt-1-usatoday-29648163-rtrmadp-3-pgabmwchampionshipfinalro.webp\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Gary Woodland at the 2026 BMW Championship.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Woodland was making a run at the lead, having carded three birdies on the front nine to trim Wyndham Clark\u2019s advantage to one when he tried to hit a stinger off the tee with a fairway wood but topped it 97 yards into a creek that &#8220;has never been in play, at any tournament they&#8217;ve ever had here,&#8221; said Jim Nantz.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Woodland was 14 under at the time but with his tee shot proved costly as he made a double-bogey six. My coach, Randy, calls it an oops. I think I was trying to get on top of it, trying to hit it a little low. I had been hitting it nicely. But I was shocked more than anything. I told my caddie, &#8216;I think I just topped that into the water.&#8217; But I&#8217;m proud of myself for rebounding because I could have let it get away pretty good. It shocked me more than anything.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Woodland, 42, won the Texas Childrens Hospital Open in April for his first win since 2019. Though playing in Missouri, the Kansas native called this week his home game and has a big following of Jayhawks in his group.
