It did not disclose the financial value of the deal.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">The gas will be transported to Germany via existing pipelines.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">&#8220;With this agreement, we are strengthening Germany&#8217;s long-term gas supply and at the same time deepening our cooperation with Equinor,&#8221; chief executive Michael Lewis said.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">Uniper is one of Europe&#8217;s largest gas wholesalers. The company supplies municipal utilities, large industrial customers and power plant operators. It is currently almost entirely in German state ownership, though Germany must reduce its stake to a maximum of 25% plus one share by the end of 2028.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">Thirty terawatt hours represents a significant volume: Germany consumed natural gas with a total energy content of 864 terawatt hours last year, according to the Federal Network Agency.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">Norway is already Germany&#8217;s largest natural gas supplier. Last year, around 44% of the natural gas delivered to Germany arrived via pipelines from the Scandinavian country. Equinor is 67% owned by the Norwegian state.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">Norwegian liquefied natural gas (LNG) also reaches Germany by ship. The country&#8217;s share of all LNG deliveries directly to Germany this year stood at 4.1% through the end of July, according to energy industry association BDEW.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">The US remains the largest LNG supplier in 2026, with a share of 87.6%, compared with 94.3% for the full year 2025.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FILE PHOTO &#8211; The Troll A gas production platform off the west coast of Norway.
