Wahl-O-Mat <\/a>is an election tool where users can compare their political views with the platforms of all 17 parties running in the state elections on September 20.\u00a0<\/p>\nThe election compass is designed and released by the Federal Agency for Civic Education (BPB) and the Berlin state agency for civic education. It presents political statements that users can agree with, disagree with, or remain neutral towards to gauge what parties they align most closely with.\u00a0<\/p>\n
An editorial team made up of young voters, academics, education experts and representatives from the Federal and State Agencies for Civic Education developed 38 statements for the tool. Drawing on the parties\u2019 election programmes and manifestos, the statements are intended to reflect the key political issues at stake in the Berlin election.<\/p>\n
The answers provided by the parties in the Wahl-O-Mat come directly from them. A key feature of Wahl-O-Mat is that the parties provide a brief explanation for each answer. This allows users to understand why a party responded to a particular statement in a certain way. This aims to increase transparency and help users better understand the parties\u2019 political positions.<\/p>\n
Since its introduction in 2002, the Wahl-O-Mat has been used more than 160 million times.
