{"id":79058,"date":"2026-08-26T00:11:54","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T00:11:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/79058\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T00:11:54","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T00:11:54","slug":"truly-sorry-to-all-of-you-new-berlin-mayor-apologizes-for-anti-muslim-social-media-posts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/79058\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Truly sorry to all of you&#8217;: New Berlin mayor apologizes for anti-Muslim social media posts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;Truly sorry to all of you&#8217;: New Berlin mayor apologizes for anti-Muslim social media posts<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Dave Ament made the apology at the beginning of Tuesday&#8217;s Common Council meeting just before the Council unanimously passed a resolution formally condemning Ament&#8217;s posts.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787703113_684_author_avatar.png\" width=\"48\" height=\"48\" alt=\"Tanner Kahler\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>NEW BERLIN, Wis. \u2014<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"0\">At Tuesday&#8217;s New Berlin Common Council meeting, Mayor Dave Ament publicly apologized for sharing anti-Muslim posts on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"1\">Ament, who has served as mayor for more than 13 years and is currently in his fourth term, reposted content including one message that read, &#8220;If you voted for a Muslim for elected office in this country, you are a traitor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"3\">During Tuesday&#8217;s meeting, people sitting in the audience held up signs that read, &#8220;New Berlin deserves better&#8221; and &#8220;Resign, Mayor Ament.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/62ed8804-9ba4-44fe-aff0-2b4496365f49.jpg\" alt=\"Image no longer available\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" draggable=\"true\" class=\"css-fphibt\"\/><\/p>\n<p>New Berlin Common Council Meeting<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/62ed8804-9ba4-44fe-aff0-2b4496365f49.jpg\" alt=\"Image no longer available\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"css-hr9vxw\"\/><\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"5\">Ament stressed the posts were made on his personal Facebook page and not on any official city social media account. <\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"6\">&#8220;I take full responsibility for sharing them. I unfortunately did not take into account how these inappropriate posts could be insulting, offensive and hurtful. And I should have,&#8221; Mayor Ament said. &#8220;Rather than be a part of the solution in promoting dialogue on issues we all care about, I unfortunately contributed to the division that I wanted to heal.
