{"id":80873,"date":"2026-08-29T01:16:16","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T01:16:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/80873\/"},"modified":"2026-08-29T01:16:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T01:16:16","slug":"german-afd-youth-wing-distances-itself-from-partys-euro-exit-stance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/80873\/","title":{"rendered":"German AfD youth wing distances itself from party&#8217;s euro exit stance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The youth wing of Germany&#8217;s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) is distancing itself from the party&#8217;s longstanding call for Germany to leave the euro currency, saying it instead wants reforms to address flaws in the currency system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Jean-Pascal Hohm, head of the Generation Deutschland (GD) youth organization, told the Bild newspaper in remarks published on Friday: &#8220;We do not want Germany to leave the euro, but to address the existing structural flaws in the euro system.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The GD is due to adopt a position on the issue at a federal congress in the city of Magdeburg on Saturday. A draft statement says the euro has strengthened the European single market but has &#8220;structural flaws&#8221; and calls for reforms that would improve stability without giving up Europe&#8217;s economic unity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The AfD, which was founded in 2013 as a eurosceptic party, has called for Germany to leave the euro system in its 2025 election programme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Hohm, who also sits on the AfD&#8217;s federal board, also differs from party leader Alice Weidel on migration. While Weidel has called for Germany to leave the EU&#8217;s Schengen free-movement area, Hohm said the country should remain part of it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The GD was established last year as the AfD&#8217;s new youth organization after the party dissolved its previous youth wing, the Junge Alternative (JA).
