Probably not, as there are quite a few of them, as the Munich-based auto marque pretty much wants to reinvent itself when it comes to the design part.

Whether you like it or not, the Neue Klasse design language is here to stay. You can already see it on several new models from the brand’s modern-day lineup, including the new iX3 premium compact electric crossover, and the i3 Sedan, an all-quiet alternative to the 3 Series. Mind you, you shouldn’t mistake it with the old i3, which was a quirky-looking hatch, which was assembled between 2013 and 2022 at the Leipzig factory in Germany, nor the electric 3er marketed in China at one point.

Unveiled back in March of this year, the BMW i3 Sedan is pretty much an electric 3 Series, albeit one based on the Neue Klasse construction, which features the eponymous design language. The new 3 Series, on the other hand, will be based on an updated version of the current CLAR architecture. The i3 is 187.4 inches (4,760 mm) long, 73.4 inches (1,864 mm) wide, and 58.3 inches (1,481 mm) tall, and has a wheelbase length of 114.1 inches (2,898 mm) that expands to 118.3 inches (3,006 mm) in China’s LWB configuration.

This model replaces the i4 in worldwide markets and the G28 i3 in the People’s Republic, and it will soon be joined by a more practical version. We are talking about the first-ever BMW i3 Touring, a family-oriented model that has been caught testing in the open on multiple occasions these past few months. Our latest encounter with it came via CarSpyMedia on YouTube. The footage shared at the bottom of the page shows a camouflaged prototype being driven on the roads near Germany’s Nurburgring racetrack.

Photo: Screenshot Youtube | CarSpyMedia

Mind you, there was no need for the vinyl stickers, because we all know what this model will look like, especially at the front, as the entire face will be the same as the one of its four-door sedan sibling. In fact, the whole thing will be identical up to the B-pillars. Further back, the BMW i3 Touring will feature a longer roofline ending with a spoiler above the rear windscreen, redesigned rear three-quarter glass and rear three-quarter panels, and a tailgate that will open up into a very generous cargo area behind the rear seats.

The interior will also carry over from the BMW i3 Sedan. Thus, expect the same BMW Panoramic iDrive, complete with the BMW Operating System X, and the Panoramic Vision. The latter is the famous extra-wide display that stretches from one A-pillar to the other at the bottom of the windshield. The iDrive combines haptic, voice-based, and touch interactions, and there is also an Intelligent Personal Assistant on deck. The company also mentions the dialog-based interaction with intelligent and intuitive exchanges.

Expect the Dynamic Performance Control software to make its way inside the first-ever BMW i3 Touring, as well as the Heart of Joy computer, the eDrive technology, Soft Stop function, Symbiotic Drive, Motorway Assistant that enables hands-free driving on the motorway at speeds of up to 81 mph or 130 kph as an option, as well as plenty of other features.

Photo: Screenshot Youtube | CarSpyMedia

Stuff such as the Harman Kardon premium sound system, a heated steering wheel, a three-zone automatic climate control system, a panoramic glass roof, heated rear seats, and an automatic tailgate, will also be on deck, though some of them will either be optional extras or reserved to upper specs. Like the i3 Sedan, the BMW i3 Touring should also be offered with 19- and 20-inch wheels straight from the factory.

A pair of electric motors will power it in the xDrive 50 configuration, which should be the launch model. This version offers 463 brake horsepower in total, equaling to 345 kilowatts and 469 metric horsepower, and 476 pound-feet or 645 Nm of torque. The BMW i3 Sedan xDrive 50 takes 4.7 seconds to hit 62 mph (100 kph) from a standstill, and we expect the eponymous i3 Touring to be perhaps one-tenth of a second slower due to the added weight.

A 108.7 kWh battery pack will feed electrons to the two electric motors mentioned above, and the 800-volt tech will also be a thing, allowing this model to recharge for up to 263 miles or 423 kilometers at 400 kW. The BMW i3 Sedan has a total driving range of 563 miles (906 km) on the WLTP cycle, and the i3 Touring’s autonomy should be a bit less.

BMW’s premium compact electric grocery getter is expected to be due in early 2027, and in the meantime, you can check it out on video below in pre-production form, as it was driven in the open, and stopped for an electron-sipping session at one point.

7 photos Photo: Screenshot Youtube | CarSpyMedia Can you remember off the top of your head how…

[20955
58990,6213,27485,36520,1098,36521,55700,4795
post-80901","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-bmw","tag-2027-bmw-i3-touring","tag-bmw","tag-bmw-i3","tag-bmw-i3-touring","tag-electric-vehicles","tag-i3-touring","tag-spied","tag-video
["GET
