BERLIN, Sept 1 (Reuters) – Volkswagen stakeholders are discussing competing turnaround proposals for the beleaguered auto \u200cgroup ahead of a crucial supervisory board \u200cmeeting on Friday but a breakthrough is seen as unlikely, \u200bsources familiar with the talks said. <\/p>\n
There was some progress ahead of workers’ assemblies at Volkswagen plants last week but the readiness for compromise had faltered, \u200cone person familiar \u2060with the matter said. <\/p>\n
Another source said efforts to reach a compromise before Friday’s \u2060meeting were not over but chances were slim. <\/p>\n
Spokespeople for the company and the supervisory board declined \u200bto comment \u200bon the talks. <\/p>\n
Handelsblatt was \u200bfirst to report on \u200cefforts to break the impasse. The business daily said representatives for management, top shareholders, the labour side and Lower Saxony met on Monday and Tuesday. <\/p>\n
Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume will make a second \u200cattempt to push through radical \u200bcuts at Europe’s top carmaker \u200bon Friday. <\/p>\n
Under pressure \u200bfrom the owner families to cut \u200cjobs and production, Blume must \u200bbreak an \u200bimpasse with the group’s labour and state government stakeholders, or find a way to bypass \u200btheir influence, \u200cin a potentially explosive power struggle at the \u200bcompany. <\/p>\n
