June 17 (Reuters) – German technology company Robert Bosch agreed to pay $36 million to U.S. authorities \u200cfor shipping over $70 million worth of sensor products and \u200csoftware for cell phones to China’s Huawei, the U.S. Commerce Department said \u200bon Wednesday. <\/p>\n
Huawei is on a U.S. trade blacklist that requires a license for certain foreign-produced items that are the product of U.S.-origin technology. <\/p>\n
Two non-U.S. Bosch subsidiaries exported the goods and \u200csoftware between 2020 and \u20602024 on over 100 occasions without a license, according to a settlement agreement between the \u2060Commerce Department and Bosch. <\/p>\n
The violations were “unintentional,” Bosch said in a statement. <\/p>\n
The U.S. Justice Department agreed to close its related investigation \u200band said \u200bit was declining to prosecute \u200bthe company, which self-disclosed \u200cthe misconduct. <\/p>\n
“This declination reflects the clear benefits for companies that promptly disclose potential violations and fully assist in our investigations,” Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg said in a statement. <\/p>\n
Bosch agreed to disgorge profits from the \u200ctransactions at issue to the Justice \u200bDepartment. The company will receive credit \u200bin the $36 million Commerce \u200bDepartment settlement for the Justice Department payment, \u200cwhich also was partially suspended, \u200bauthorities said. <\/p>\n
Bosch, headquartered \u200bin Stuttgart, is an international technology and services company with nearly 500 subsidiaries and approximately $90 billion in annual \u200brevenue in 2024. <\/p>\n
In \u200cits statement, Bosch said it had enhanced its trade \u200bcompliance program to prevent future violations. <\/p>\n
