The following story is about a man who was working on his laptop<\/a> in a cafe in Berlin.<\/p>\n

He noticed that a young child nearby began screaming constantly, despite having guardians with her.<\/p>\n

He looked visibly annoyed but never complained to the mother or asked them to leave.<\/p>\n

But the mother confronted him anyway and accused him of discriminating against children.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s take a closer look!<\/p>\n

I was in a cafe in Berlin. It was a Saturday. I was using my laptop to plan my trip.<\/p>\n

At a table next to me, there were 2 women with 3 kids.<\/p>\n

The youngest of them (1 to 3 years old) was screaming constantly.<\/p>\n

It was obvious that the kid didn\u2019t want to be there.<\/p>\n

The mother, however, just kept talking to the other woman.<\/p>\n

This man was approached by the kid\u2019s mother who confronted him.<\/p>\n

I was visibly annoyed and looked at the crying kid and the mother a few times.<\/p>\n

She then approached me and said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a cafe, and everyone has the right to be here.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re annoyed by the kid, you can go and work in a co-working space.\u201d<\/p>\n

He replied and emphasized that the screaming was annoying everyone.<\/p>\n

To this, I replied, \u201cThe kid is screaming, and it\u2019s annoying for everyone.<\/p>\n

Also, I didn\u2019t complain about it or tell you anything about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

She then became more frustrated and said:<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are discriminating against children. Everyone has the right to be here.\u201d<\/p>\n

They kept going back and forth.<\/p>\n

I said, \u201cI\u2019m not discriminating against anyone.<\/p>\n

I have the right to look wherever I want and to be annoyed as much as I want.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not the one who approached you and bothered you in any way.\u201d<\/p>\n

She kept on rambling and left the cafe. Am I the jerk?<\/p>\n

Honestly, OP did not do anything wrong. He simply expressed his annoyance over a screaming child.<\/p>\n

He never approached the mother or demanded that she leave.<\/p>\n
