If you are reading this on any site other than constructionreviewonline.com, the content has been stolen.<\/p>\n<p>Updated February 5, 2026 \u2013 German utility EnBW Energie Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with <a href=\"https:\/\/about.google\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Google<\/a> for 100 MW of capacity from its 960 MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the North Sea. The Google power supply deal with EnBW represents a significant corporate commitment to offshore wind generation as the company continues to expand its renewable portfolio. Under the 15-year contract with EnBW, Google will receive clean electricity generated by He Dreiht which has already achieved first power and is scheduled for full commissioning by summer 2026. This will help support the American multinational technology company\u2019s global 24\/7 carbon-free energy goals. Google plans to achieve this by matching hourly consumption with equivalent renewable generation on the same grid.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement also adds to a suite of PPAs EnBW has concluded for He Dreiht with corporate partners including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhl.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DHL<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bosch.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bosch<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/evonik.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Evonik<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/int.bahn.de\/en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Deutsche Bahn<\/a> and Deutsche Telekom\u2019s energy subsidiary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pasm.de\/index.php\/about-us\/?lang=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PASM<\/a>. Collectively, these cover a substantial portion of the wind farm\u2019s output while also reinforcing the role of corporate PPAs in financing large-scale renewable infrastructure in Europe. The 960 MW wind farm, located about 85 km northwest of the island of Borkum, has been advancing toward its expected summer 2026 commissioning date and is already securing long-term power offtake agreements as it nears full turbine installation. This progresses the 960 MW project\u2019s construction phase as 63 more turbines await installation. Cumulatively, the 64 wind turbines will supply 3.6 billion kWh of wind energy annually once commissioned. It is also the first time Vestas has installed it. To put the impressive technicality of the largest 15 MW wind turbines currently in the market, a single rotor rotation is said to generate enough power to supply four homes with electricity for a day. Quite impressive!<\/p>\n<p>When assessed from a different angle, the first turbine installation at the EnBW He Dreiht also marks the start of culmination of the development of a 15-year old project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnBW He Dreiht\u201d Project Cost<\/p>\n<p>The \u20ac 2.4 billion He Dreiht is also being build without financial support from the German government. This means no renumeration from the Renewable Energy Act. Together, the 64 V236-15.0 MW turbines from Vestas will work at an installation capacity of 960 MW. This capacity will be enough to power 1.1. million German homes once the offshore wind project is commissioned.<\/p>\n<p>The turbines\u2019 hub stand at 142 meters, while the massive 236 meters wide rotors sweep Germany\u2019s North Sea through an area of 43,742 square meters with each revolution.<\/p>\n<p>Also implicated in the project is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennet.eu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TenneT<\/a>. The Dutch-German grid operator will connect the wind farm to the electricity grid. This will involve the use of an offshore converter station, and two high-voltage DC (HVDC) cables. Noise mitigation system was also used during the process<\/p>\n<p>Other than the promise to supply the country with affordable renewable energy, the offshore wind project has also delivered on creating jobs and boosting the local and regional economy. More than 500 construction jobs and over 60 marine vessels have so far been involved in the project.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, as a wind turbine stands in the \u2018EnBW He Dreiht\u201d wind farm, around 10 countries have a piece to it. The company has also ventured in other offshore wind farm projects close by in the North Sea. These are the, Hohe See and Albatros.
