Karlsruhe. The global nonprofit organization CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project) has awarded EnBW Energie Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg AG (EnBW) an \u201cA\u201d rating for its commitment to climate change mitigation. The energy company has thus improved on its \u201cLeadership\u201d status (\u201cA-\u201d) from last year and is now included on the A List in the climate category. Out of more than 22,100 companies rated worldwide, only 34 German companies appear on the list of the best across all industries. In the water security category, EnBW has improved its rating from \u201cB-\u201d to \u201cB\u201d (\u201cmanagement\u201d status). The annual CDP rating is the most comprehensive of its kind and is considered the international standard for environmental transparency. <\/p>\n
Successes in expanding renewable energies<\/p>\n

In the current survey, CDP takes into account EnBW\u2019s recent successes in relation to the expansion of renewable energy capacity, among other things. The company has recently increased this share to around 60 percent of total generation capacity. In the area of water security, the even more comprehensive reporting and EnBW\u2019s efforts to reduce water consumption and wastewater volumes had a positive impact on the rating. <\/p>\n
Climate Transition Plan provides additional transparency<\/p>\n
In 2025, EnBW reaffirmed its commitment to national and international climate change mitigation targets and broadened its decarbonization path to include a net zero target for all corporate emissions. The company wants to reduce its direct and indirect emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) to net zero by 2040, and upstream and downstream emissions in the value chain (Scope 3) by no later than 2050. In its Net Zero Assessment, the rating agency Moody\u2019s gave this clearly defined climate transition plan with a long-term reduction path a very good rating of \u201cNZ-2\u201d (advanced) and declared it to be in line with the 1.5\u00b0C target set out in the Paris Agreement. <\/p>\n
EnBW is also ensuring transparency with its Climate Transition Plan, which was updated in 2025. The plan uses specific metrics and processes to detail how the company intends to achieve its climate change mitigation targets. The achievement of EnBW\u2019s climate targets is dependent on corresponding political and regulatory framework conditions being met.<\/p>\n
