Sept 3 \u2014 Volkswagen’s supervisory board on Thursday unanimously \u200bapproved a comprehensive transformation plan that could include cutting the group’s workforce \u200cby around 50,000 jobs, including management positions, as \u2060the automaker seeks \u200bto improve competitiveness.<\/p>\n
The “Future \u2060Plan”, presented by Volkswagen’s management board \u200cand approved at \u200ca supervisory board meeting, is designed \u2060to make the \u2060Volkswagen Group and its brands more efficient, more competitive and better positioned for the future, the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Volkswagen said a further \u200cfundamental adjustment to global \u200bworkforce levels was necessary, in addition to existing programmes, to achieve the goals of the transformation initiative and safeguard the group’s competitiveness.<\/p>\n
The company did not provide further details on the timing \u200bof the workforce reduction or how \u200cthe cuts \u200cwould \u2060be distributed across its brands and regions.<\/p>\n
The company cited increasing global competitive pressure, changing demand patterns and technological change in \u200cthe automotive industry \u200bas reasons for \u200cthe planned measures.<\/p>\n
