No further details could be provided because their disclosure could jeopardize the ongoing investigation, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to German news magazine Der Spiegel, the suspects, who are said to be mainly from China, allegedly posed as descendants of Jews expelled by the Nazis and submitted citizenship applications in recent years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Article 116 of Germany&#8217;s Basic Law allows people who were stripped of their German citizenship by the Nazis to have it restored.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Der Spiegel reported that some of the suspects were wanted under international arrest warrants for offences including murder and kidnapping, and may have sought to obtain new identities for that reason.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Prosecutors did not confirm the report, saying they had no reliable information about possible other crimes committed by the suspects abroad.
