The figures depicted include Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Andy Warhol, and Pablo Picasso, with the heads placed on robotic dogs fitted with hyper-realistic silicone heads.

These robots are now patrolling the halls of a Berlin museum, periodically “pooing” printed images of their surroundings, captured by built-in cameras. The unsettling creatures are part of an interactive exhibit by American artist Beeple (Mike Winkelmann), currently on display at Berlin’s Neue Nationalgalerie.

In part, these human-dog hybrid robots are meant to symbolize the power billionaires currently wield over society, according to the artist.

Each printed image depicts a fragment of reality reimagined by AI to reflect the dog’s personality — or rather, the perspective of the human figure perched on its shoulders. The Picasso dog, for instance, produces images in a Cubist style, while Warhol’s work is rendered in pop art.

There is even a robot that looks like Kim Jong Un at the exhibition (Image: AP)

The installation serves as a pointed commentary on how algorithms and technology platforms shape our perception of the world, according to the event’s organizers.

“In the past, our view of the world was shaped in part by how artists saw the world. How Picasso painted changed how we saw the world, how Warhol talked about consumerism, pop culture, that changed how he saw those things,” Beeple told the AP.

It is tech billionaires who wield that influence over society now, says Beeple, controlling powerful algorithms that determine what we see — and what we don’t.

“That’s an immense amount of power that I don’t think we’ve fully understood, especially because when they want to make a change, they don’t need to lobby the U.N. They don’t need to get something through Congress or the EU, they just wake up and change these algorithms.”

Berlin exhibition curator Lisa Botti noted that artificial intelligence stands among the most transformative forces shaping our lives today, and that “museums are the places where society can reflect” on such shifts — a key reason she sought to showcase Beeple’s work. The piece, titled “Regular Animals,” made its debut at Art Basel Miami Beach 2025.

A graphic designer hailing from South Carolina, Beeple produces a wide range of digital artworks and is recognized as one of the pioneers of the “everyday” movement in 3D graphics — a discipline in which he has created and posted a new image online every single day without exception.

While he might not be a household name just yet, Christie’s ranks him as the third-most-valuable living artist sold at auction, behind only David Hockney and Jeff Koons.

In spring 2021, Christie’s launched bidding on Beeple’s digital collage “Everydays: The First 5000 Days,” which ultimately fetched over $69 million. The auction house characterized the piece as “critiques of modern society, the government and social media” expressed through “grotesque, dystopian futures, often featuring celebrities like Donald Trump and Kanye West.”

Christie’s announced that the sale represented the first occasion a prominent auction house presented a digital-only artwork accompanied by a non-fungible token as verification of its authenticity, as well as the inaugural instance of cryptocurrency being utilized as payment for an artwork at auction.

Non-fungible tokens, commonly referred to as NFTs, are digital identifiers that verify the authenticity of a digital collectible by recording its details on a blockchain. These tokens have recently taken the online collecting world by storm, emerging as a byproduct of the cryptocurrency surge.

At the Art Basel 2025 event, Beeple gave away photos of his dogs’ poo to audience members, accompanied by a certificate that read “100% organic GMO-free dog shit.” Some prints had QR codes that gave access to free NFTs, which, in practice, meant Beeple was giving away his digital art for people (sometimes the subjects of the photos themselves) to potentially monetize.

Robots in the likeness of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are displayed at the install (Image: AP) A…

[4
8065,18,8301,4153,8302,8300,8303
0":"post-8473","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-berlin","8":"tag-beeple","9":"tag-berlin","10":"tag-berlin-exhibition","11":"tag-elon-musk","12":"tag-surreal-robots","13":"tag-tech-section","14":"tag-tech-billionaires-influence
["GET
