Aldi<\/a> has confirmed that all of 1,080 of its UK stores will pull down the shutters on December 26 this year, to give their staff a well-earned break to spend time with family and friends on Boxing Day<\/a>. The German supermarket chain, which has a large presence in the UK, will close on Christmas Day<\/a> and Boxing Day, before opening stores again on Sunday December 27, 2026.<\/p>\n

Aldi has confirmed that stores will also be shut on New Year’s Day and reopen on Saturday, January 2, 2027. The retailer notes that opening times will vary locally in the days before Christmas, with extended hours at many stores to give shoppers more time to get all they need for festive celebrations.<\/p>\n

Rachel Geary, Communications Director at Aldi UK, said: “Christmas is a special time for our customers, but it is also one of the busiest periods of the year for our teams.<\/p>\n

“Our colleagues work incredibly hard to ensure customers can pick up everything they need ahead of the big day.<\/p>\n

“We never take that effort for granted. Closing our stores on Boxing Day is one way of saying thank you and giving colleagues a proper chance to rest, switch off and spend more time with the people closest to them.”<\/p>\n

Aldi encourages customers to use the Aldi Store Finder nearer the time to check the opening hours at their local. The update comes after last week Aldi<\/a> named more than two dozen stores that are set for upgrades this year. <\/p>\n

The discounter said 25 more locations will benefit from its \u00a3300million investment in upgrading existing stores across the UK this year.<\/p>\n

Among those receiving refurbishments and other improvements, including more energy-efficient technology are branches in London<\/a>, Liverpool, Aberdeen<\/a>, Sunderland and Bedford.<\/p>\n

Five stores, including their branches in Stirling, Paisley, Wollaston, Linlithgow and Lewes, will also be extended as part of the investment programme, Aldi<\/a> says. The groceries giant notes that changes will vary by store, with some benefiting from upgrades to their Bakery, Health & Beauty and fresh food areas.<\/p>\n

The programme of upgrades will also bring in more sustainable features, including energy-efficient fridge doors and natural refrigerants designed to help bring down carbon emissions, the firm says.<\/p>\n
