Aldi’s low-cost aisles have long attracted shoppers, but its competitor, Lidl, has curious customers comparing the two chains. As it turns out, customers who have shopped at both stores can’t stop talking about Lidl’s fruit and vegetable selection, noting in online discussions that the vegetables seem to last longer than the produce found at Aldi.

Some of the differences between Lidl and Aldi come down to pure practicality. Lidl locations are often larger than Aldi’s and offer more space to fill displays with additional options. “Lidl offers a bit more breathing room,” wrote one customer on Reddit.

In addition to wider selections of veggies and fruit, some shoppers have described Lidl as an experience more similar to a traditional supermarket than a bargain brand, and that some products that can’t be found at Aldi can be spotted inside the store. That variety often makes the difference when shoppers decide between the two. “I always buy my produce at Lidl. Always,” wrote another shopper on Facebook.

Identifying priorities for your grocery shopping

                    Horacio Villalobos/Getty Images

Not every buyer looking for fruit and vegetables heads straight to Lidl, however. One customer on Reddit said that when it comes to buying or avoiding Aldi produce, they buy it every time, simply because it is ready to eat right away rather than needing time to ripen at home. Shoppers worried about fruit going bad have shared tactics to extend the life of purchases, like putting berries in glass jars and wrapping celery and lettuce in foil.

Others have speculated that variations in selections can be attributed to individual stores and how far produce travels before it is set on display. Plenty of Aldi shoppers maintain that produce can be found that is both fresh and cheap. And even with a limited selection, Aldi offers enough options to fill a shopping cart. For some, this lack of choices is a preferred experience. Another shopper on Reddit explained that the limitation is better for budgeting. “Too much choice is bad for us mentally,” added another commenter on the same thread.

When it comes to the final numbers on a grocery receipt, pitting the two stores against each other can get complicated, as both stores are known for their discounts. Depending on the week and the desired item, one brand may slightly edge out the other. For the savvy shopper, comparing prices on the day is the most reliable option when it comes to buying essential household staples you should always have in your pantry at the lowest price.

William87/Getty Images When it comes to groceries, budget-minded…

[21128
21143,21144
post-86699","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-aldi","tag-aldi","tag-sud-nord
["GET
