{"id":86875,"date":"2026-09-08T01:25:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T01:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/86875\/"},"modified":"2026-09-08T01:25:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T01:25:10","slug":"aldis-five-year-fruit-and-veg-winning-streak-is-over","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/86875\/","title":{"rendered":"Aldi\u2019s five-year fruit and veg winning streak is over"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IGA has ended Aldi\u2019s five-year winning streak to take out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canstarblue.com.au\/groceries\/supermarket-fruit-veg\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"sc-ZStEl fijHCo\">Canstar\u2019s\u00a02026 Most Satisfied Customers Award<\/a> for Supermarket Fruit &amp; Veg.<\/p>\n<p>The consumer group surveyed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/lifestyle\/money\/coles-woolworths-cut-local-banana-beef-farmers-20260903-p60u5n.html\" class=\"sc-ZStEl fijHCo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2,541 supermarket shoppers<\/a> who rated IGA as having the best fruit and vegetables, awarding it five stars for overall satisfaction, freshness of produce, variety and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/lifestyle\/money\/woolworths-coles-collectibles-supermarket-war-fissler-cookware-20260903-p60u49.html\" class=\"sc-ZStEl fijHCo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">value for money<\/a>. IGA lost just one star for value for money.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"  \" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/adeef3d07f47ff4712ec541890ea1e570340db59a594ce7e4f5119c5af10cc67.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p Veg.\u00a0IGA<\/p>\n<p>In second place is previous winner Aldi, scoring five stars for value for money, four stars overall satisfaction, freshness of produce and presentation, and just two stars for variety.<\/p>\n<p>Woolworths landed in third place, earning four stars for variety, three stars for overall satisfaction, and two stars for freshness of produce, value for money, and presentation. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\" \" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/8bb4226cb49abdf2c83202616413bc145073595fb16c771d0a4b8430566a8d97.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">This has ended Aldi\u2019s five-year winning streak.\u00a0Jo Abi<\/p>\n<p>Coles placed fourth in the Canstar rating, earning three stars in each category.<\/p>\n<p>Canstar.com.au\u2019s consumer expert, Eden Radford, said cost of living is increasingly shaping how shoppers choose their fresh fruit and veg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, the data has also shown that for more than one-fifth of those surveyed, trying to save has meant cutting down on the amount of fresh fruit and vegetables consumed altogether,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>According to shoppers surveyed, the average weekly spend on fresh fruit and vegetables is $32 which is a 26 per cent drop from 2025\u2019s figure of $43.<\/p>\n<p>Canstar\u2019s research showed shoppers are actively trying to reduce their spending in the fresh fruit and vegetable aisle. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"   \" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/34570fc15d9ac23ee72e87aee49ecc2c4dda89881a673c4f5d47b3a72d645081.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">Freshness is top of mind for Aussie shoppers.\u00a0Jo Abi<\/p>\n<p>Over two-fifths (42 per cent) say they buy only what is affordable instead of what they would like to eat, 33 per cent are buying the \u2018ugly\u2019 produce, while 25 per cent are going frozen because it\u2019s cheaper, and 23 per cent are doing it so they don\u2019t need to worry about fresh produce spoiling.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\" \" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/0c22b43bd7fc30340fe95f262573a3a2c7b9d25f1e0c068b5fee0b2992607b36.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">Over two-fifths (42 per cent) say they buy only what is affordable.\u00a0Minchinbury Fruit and Vegetables<\/p>\n<p>More than one-in-ten (12 per cent) shoppers have even admitted to reducing the weight of the produce they buy, such as removing stalks from broccoli, while six per cent admit to being dishonest by selecting the cheaper version of a more expensive item at the self-serve checkout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether buying only what\u2019s affordable, choosing \u2018ugly\u2019 produce, or perhaps getting tactical by trying to drop some weight, it\u2019s evident that shoppers are trying all approaches to stretch their dollar further,\u201d Radford explained.<\/p>\n<p>And shoppers report using every trick in the book to keep costs down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether it\u2019s adopting new saving tactics or switching supermarkets entirely, this is evidence that Australian households are
