MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. \u2014 A driver is facing two attempted murder charges after Miami Gardens police said he tried to hit a food delivery driver outside of the agency\u2019s own headquarters, then hit a customer walking into a nearby Aldi on Friday.<\/p>\n
Investigators said Steve St. Felix, 44, of northwest Miami-Dade, called 911 about two hours later and admitted to the seemingly random crime.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest report, an Uber Eats driver told investigators that he was \u201csaid he was standing by the main entrance stairs\u201d at the Miami Gardens Police Department headquarters, located at 18611 NW 27th Ave., at around 8 p.m. trying to make a delivery when he saw a white Toyota Corolla speeding toward him.<\/p>\n
The delivery driver said he managed to get out of the way as the driver, later identified as St. Felix, hit a metal handrail, the report states. St. Felix took off, police said.<\/p>\n
A second arrest report states that Felix went to the Aldi at 19100 NW 27th Ave. about an hour later.<\/p>\n
Police said a man initially noticed the sedan driving past him \u201cnormally\u201d as if the driver were exiting, then heard an engine rev and saw the driver make a U-turn.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince it didn\u2019t cause him to question it, he continued walking towards the entrance,\u201d the report states.<\/p>\n
According to the report, when the victim was almost at the entrance, St. Felix hit him.<\/p>\n
Police said the victim \u201clanded on the windshield\u201d and then fell to the pavement as St. Felix continued driving, causing \u201csignificant abrasions to (his) right arm as well as his right side rib cage area.\u201d<\/p>\n
Medics treated the victim at the scene, police said. Authorities said they later found the damaged vehicle parked on Northwest 30th Court, noting \u201cwhat appeared to be a work identification card hanging from the rearview mirror\u201d containing St. Felix\u2019s name.<\/p>\n
Authorities said St. Felix had walked more than a mile to the RaceWay gas station at 3695 NW 183rd St., where he called 911 at around 11 p.m. and admitted to the crime.<\/p>\n
Police said they then responded and detained him. In the report, an officer described a statement to police:<\/p>\n
\u201cHe stated that he was driving along the area of the police station when he observed an unknown person standing in front of the police station holding a bag. He stated that he was thinking of possibly harming this person and made a U-turn and drove straight to him intentionally. He stated that he didn\u2019t actually strike him, but his prior intention was to harm this person. He stated that after that, he left the area driving and went to a local Aldi store not far from there. He stated that he waited in the parking lot, observed an unknown person exiting the vehicle, and wanted to harm this individual. He stated that he intentionally accelerated and struck this person and left the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n

The report goes on to state that St. Felix told the officer that \u201che suffers from mental health problems and he\u2019s not currently on any medication.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police arrested St. Felix on the aforementioned attempted murder charges, as well as a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge.<\/p>\n
As of Tuesday morning, St. Felix remained locked up in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after a judge ordered that he be held without bond.<\/p>\n
