US President Donald Trump on Thursday called on German Chancellor
\nFriedrich Merz to focus on \u201cfixing his broken country,\u201d rather than critiquing
\nUS efforts to neutralize the Iranian nuclear threat.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Chancellor of Germany should spend more time on ending the war with
\nRussia\/Ukraine (Where he has been totally ineffective!),\u201d Trump added, pressing
\nhim to devote less time interfering with those \u2018\u2019making the World, including
\nGermany, a safer place!\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
Berlin did not immediately react to Trump\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n
Earlier today, Merz signaled Germany\u2019s readiness to take part in
\nmilitary measures to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,
\nsubject to international or parliamentary authorization. He also urged Iran to
\nreturn to negotiations without delay, stressing that the waterway should remain
\nopen \u201cwithout conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n
The escalation began after US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran on February
\n28, prompting Tehran to impose restrictions on US- and Israeli-linked shipping
\nin the strategic corridor, disrupting maritime traffic. Washington later
