We expect the withdrawal to be completed over the next six to twelve months.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">German Federal Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, told Newsweek that the &#8220;presence of American troops in Europe, particularly in Germany, serves the interests of both the U.S. and ourselves&#8221;, citing collaboration in Ramstein, Grafenw\u00f6hr, Frankfurt. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Friedrich Merz, the German chancellor, had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/germany-says-trump-been-humiliated-iran-war-11886040\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">previously raised concerns<\/a> about the administration\u2019s approach to Iran and ongoing negotiations related to the Strait of Hormuz. Trump indicated he could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/trump-attacks-germany-again-troop-withdrawal-hurt-us-11897115\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cut American troops in Germany<\/a> in response. That DMDC total included 22,727 Army, 12,628 Air Force, 435 Navy, 424 Marine Corps, 212 Space Force, and 10 Coast Guard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">U.S. Army Garrisons in Germany include USAG Ansbach, Bavaria, Rheinland-Pfalz, Stuttgart, and Wiesbaden.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">The country also hosts the Ramstein Air Base\u2014headquarters for NATO\u2019s air and space forces and key for coordinating missions such as air defense\u2014as well as major multinational training facilities. Its bases, along with other U.S.-used facilities across Europe, also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/trump-attacks-germany-again-troop-withdrawal-hurt-us-11897115\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">serve as operational hubs<\/a> for U.S. missions in the Middle East, Newsweek reported previously.<\/p>\n<p>USAG Ansbach<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeafrica.army.mil\/Garrisons\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">is comprised<\/a> of nine installations in Germany\u2019s Franconia region: Barton Barracks, Bismarck Kaserne, Bleidorn Kaserne, Franken Kaserne, Katterbach Kaserne, Oberdachstetten Training Area, Shipton Kaserne, Storck Barracks and Urlas Kaserne.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">It supports over 12,000 Soldiers, civilians, family members, and retirees in the Ansbach area <a href=\"https:\/\/home.army.mil\/ansbach\/about\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to the Army<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>USAG Bavaria<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">The installation consists\u00a0of two installations and two\u00a0communities: Tower Barracks in Grafenwoehr, Rose Barracks in Vilseck, Hohenfels military community and Garmisch military community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/installations.militaryonesource.mil\/in-depth-overview\/usag-bavaria\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A recent official garrison<\/a> fact sheet, using ASIP data as of July 2024, lists the active duty military personnel as about 16,240.<\/p>\n<p>USAG Rheinland-Pfalz<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">USAG Rheinland-Pfalz covers communities in nine different areas:\u00a0Kaiserslautern, Landstuhl, Baumholder, Sembach, Germersheim, Gr\u00fcnstadt, Miesau, Mannheim and Pirmasens, and the garrison is made up of 26 sites and installations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/installations.militaryonesource.mil\/in-depth-overview\/usag-rheinland-pfalz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">According to officials<\/a> it supports some 8,000 military personnel.<\/p>\n<p>USAG Stuttgart<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">It is composed of five installations spread throughout the greater Stuttgart metropolitan area: Patch Barracks, Panzer Kaserne, Kelley and Robinson Barracks and Stuttgart Army Air Field.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/home.army.mil\/stuttgart\/about\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The joint service military community is made up of<\/a> over 20,000 U.S. military personnel, U.S. federal agencies, civilians, and family members, according to the Army.<\/p>\n<p>USAG Wiesbaden<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">USAG Wiesbaden serves as the home of U.S. Army Europe and Africa Headquarters. It services 15 installations and housing areas in and around Wiesbaden, to include the Clay Kaserne, Dagger Complex in Darmstadt, a housing area and training site in Mainz and McCully Support Center in Wackernheim.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/base-guide\/us-army-garrison-wiesbaden\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">According to Military.com<\/a> it serves some 56,000 soldiers, family members, retirees, and civilian employees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Strengthening the European Pillar Within NATO&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Pistorius said that we &#8220;collaborate closely with our U.S. partners in Ramstein, Grafenw\u00f6hr, Frankfurt and elsewhere\u2013to foster peace and security in Europe, to support Ukraine and to uphold joint deterrence. The U.S. presence in Europe also serve its own security interests in Africa and the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">&#8220;It was anticipated that the U.S. might withdraw troops from Europe, including Germany. Latest reports speak of 5,000 of a total of almost 40,000 US soldiers stationed in Germany,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">&#8220;One thing is clear: if we are to remain transatlantic, we must strengthen the European pillar within NATO. In other words: as Europeans, we must take on more responsibility for our own security. Germany is on track.
