Matt Moos grew up in Lorain, and his grandfather is Bill Knight, who will be honored with the Bill Knight Memorial at the Fox Creek on June 14.
“I was swinging golf clubs before I was speaking complete sentences,” Matt Moos said. “It’s nice to be able to bring something to Lorain County where the kids can compete and qualify for the Nationals.”

Mandy Moos said Fox Creek Golf Course is closer for the youths to travel rather than going to Toledo or Akron to compete.
“Today (May 30), we had 31 boys and girls sign in, open to ages 6 to 18, all skill levels welcome, with play starting at 1 p.m. and the last group going out at 3 p.m.” she said.
Alayna Hitchcock from Piketon is the league champion in the 15-to18-year-old age group.

Alayna said, “We like to travel because of the competition, and the chance to meet new people,” Alayna said. “I play on the Piketon High School Golf League, and I played my freshman year at the Jackson High School Golf League.
“Originally, I was only going to play in three tournaments, but I liked it and stayed on. This was my first visit to Fox Creek. I liked it; it’s nice. The only problem was the wind today.
“I plan to go to college at Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas, and study business and golf. I’m going to study welding and have my own shop because of all of the oil fields in Texas, and I will still be playing golf.

“I want to thank my dad, Darreck Hitchcock, who does all of the driving and has been very supportive, as he is my golf coach and gives me help when I need it. I also want to thank my mom, Vanessa Hitchcock, who is my cheerleader, and always wanted the best for me.
“Thank you, Jesus, for this opportunity.”
Grace Moxley, of Elyria and a student in the Keystone Local School District, competed and won the 11-12-year-old division.
“I started golfing six years ago when COVID-19 was around in 2020,” Grace said. “At that time, there weren’t a lot of things to do.
I liked playing at Fox Creek today; it was challenging because there are a lot of hills.”
