Reigning PGA champion Aaron Rai, former PGA champ Jason Day and former Masters winner Hideki Matsuyama have all committed to the Travelers Championship, the tournament announced Wednesday.
Rai comes in as the No. 13 player in the world after capturing the PGA championship at Aronimink in stirring fashion last month. His 68-foot putt on 17 is one of the shots of the season, and won’t be forgotten by golf fans anytime soon. The 31-year-old shot a final round 65 to break away from a crowded field and win by three strokes.
Day, 38, is the 2015 PGA champion and former No. 1 player in the world. He’s won 13 times on tour, and last season finished tied for fourth at the Travelers, his third top-10 finish in the event. Day is currently ranked No. 45 in the world.
Matsuyama, 34, has 11 wins on tour, including the 2021 Masters. He also finished tied for fourth in Cromwell last season, and is currently ranked No. 25 in the world.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Aaron, Hideki and Jason to this year’s Travelers Championship,” Travelers Executive VP Andy Bessette said. “Aaron’s incredible PGA Championship victory last month captivated golf fans everywhere, while Hideki and Jason are proven winners adding to the elite talent that makes our tournament special. Having world-class players like these three commit to our field is exactly what our fans deserve – and we can’t wait to see them compete in Connecticut.”
