The Memorial Tournament has rolled through Friday at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, where players compete for a $4 million prize, 700 FedEx Cup points and, of course, a handshake from legendary tournament host Jack Nicklaus.
This is the seventh of eight signature events on the PGA Tour’s 2026 schedule, but unlike some other signature events, there is a cut at the Memorial. Only the top 50 and ties, plus any players within 10 shots of the lead, will secure a tee time for the weekend, which made Friday’s round more important for those who struggled Thursday.

Jack’s Place gave players fits on Friday. J.T. Poston wasn’t complaining too much after a tourney-best 7-under 65, but even he conceded he’d had a special day. “Every year it’s a great test. It’s going to expose a part of your game that’s not sharp. I think that’s what we love,” he said. “It feels like a major a lot of times, a lot of weeks.” Here’s a closer look at some of those on the wrong side of the cutline.
Projected cut is now 100 percent for 5 over
Datagolf’s projection has the Memorial cut coming in at 5 under as of 5:56 p.m. ET, that would mean Brian Harman (6 over), Jason Day (6 over), Jordan Spieth (6 over), Robert MacIntyre (7 over), Min Woo Lee (8 over) and Rickie Fowler (17 over) are all on the wrong side of the line.

Scottie Scheffler drains 40-footer for birdie
Scheffler has made 75 straight cuts and he’s intent and keeping that streak alive. He’s now at 1 over and the projected cut is 4 over.
Xander Schauffele rolls in long birdie at No. 7
Just a little tap is all this one needed. Schauffele drains this long birdie at the par-5 seventh to get to 2 under for the tournament and into the top 10 on the leaderboard.
Scottie Scheffler shanks bunker shot, saves par
You don’t see this very often from PGA Tour pros, but it’s proof that the shanks can impact even the best player in the world. Scottie Scheffler hit a full-blown shank out of the bunker at the par-5 fifth, but still managed to save par. He is, however, in grave danger of missing the cut. As of 1:25 p.m. ET, Scheffler is 3 over through 12 holes and 4 over for the tournament.
Is there a cut at the 2026 Memorial?
Yes, there will be a 36-hole cut at the end of the second round. The field will go from 72 players to the low 50 and ties as well as anyone within 10 shots of the lead. At each of the first two players-hosted sigs – the Genesis Invitational and the Arnold Palmer Invitational – 51 players made the weekend.

Two former U.S. Open champs, the defending FedEx Cup champ and Ryan Gerard are all tied for the lead. Wyndham Clark, J.J. Spaun and Tommy Fleetwood all shot 67s, as did Gerard, to take the 18-hole lead.

Tommy Fleetwood respects Muirfield Village Golf Club. “It’s like the ultimate test of your game,” he said. Asked why he likes the Jack Nicklaus layout, Fleetwood shot back, “I didn’t say I like it,” and smiled and laughed. He liked the number on the scorecard that he signed for on Thursday during the first round of the Memorial in Dublin, Ohio – a 5-under 67 that included just 21 putts and a phenomenal short-game clinic.
He also had a funny smile when asked why he likes Muirfield Village.
How much money is on the line at the Memorial?
The Memorial is one of the three “player-hosted” signature events. Like all of the sigs, there’s a $20 million prize fund, but at the three players-hosted events, they set aside $4 million for the winner.

Where do they play the Memorial Tournament?
Muirfield Village Golf Club is the host once again. Known as Jack’s Place, the course opened on May 27, 1974. The course will play as a par 72 and measure 7,569 yards. It is tied for ninth in the brand-new, just-released Golfweek’s Best top 200 modern golf courses in the U.S., ranked for 2026 list, which was unveiled on Monday, June 1. It’s ranked No. 1 on the Golfweek’s Best: Top private golf courses in Ohio list.
