Limerick would book their spot in the Munster final with a convincing win over Tipperary on Sunday afternoon, with one particularly interested viewer part of the 29,000 spectators at the Gaelic Grounds.

John Kiely’s side would have a comfortable victory in the game, finding the back of the net on five occasions as they ran out 5-27 to 0-25 winners.

Limerick diehard JP McManus was at the game, also bringing along USA Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk. The former major winner was in Ireland to scope out Adare Manor ahead of next year’s Ryder Cup.

As it turns out, he knows a little bit about hurling.

Jim Furyk Shows Off Limerick Hurling Knowledge

While this was the first hurling match he had seen in person, Jim Furyk has been keeping up with Limerick’s exploits in recent times.

Speaking to Sporting LK after the game, the American displayed an impressive knowledge of the sport when discussing the afternoon’s action.

First match ever. I’ve kind of been watching a little GAA+ in the States, trying to get ready and figure out the rules, understand the game.

A high scoring game today, right? Five goals, 42 points, so kind of a big deal. It’s really fun to watch. These guys are amazing athletes and it’s a fun sport.

I’m going to try and keep up with this team, I’m now a Limerick fan…

They call it the fastest field sport in the world. You hear that, but to see it live you really get an appreciation for it.

I’m just amazed at the distance they score from. Folks hanging off them, trying to hook them, throwing a ball up, wheel around and then boom, awkward angles and difficult shots. I’m impressed…

Folks were supporting their teams but they were polite. Even the Tipp fans that came, I heard a little cheer from the folks that were here.

I know Limerick is excited about the rest of the season, they’ve got a lot going on and a chance to do well in the All-Ireland.

We weren’t expecting to hear references to both GAA+ and hooking in that interview.

Jim Furyk may well have the opportunity to take in further Limerick games over the next year or so, with plenty of trips across the Atlantic to Adare Manor likely to be in the offing.

Here’s hoping that his experience at this game does not inspire him to a big win at the Ryder Cup.
