The LPGA headed from its second major championship to its only team event of the year and Nelly Korda was still the main attraction. The World No. 1 captured her first U.S. Women’s Open last week at Riviera and was playing again this week, partnering with her friend Olivia Cowan, who was seeking her first LPGA title.
That team, dubbed Legally Blonde, and everyone else was playing for the $3.3 million purse at Midland Country Club in Michigan. It ended with Gina Kim and 19-year-old Yana Wilson both capturing their first LPGA titles, with the winners each taking home $402,691 for a victory.
The 72-hole competition did not award world ranking points but it does still count as an official LPGA victory. Players competed in foursomes in the first and third rounds, then shifted to four-ball for the second and final rounds. Kim and Wilson shot 68-63-70-62 for a 17-under-par total.
LPGA Hall of Fame member Juli Inkster was playing in her first event of the year, teaming with Angel Yin, who Inkster has mentored on tour for years. Not only did they make the cut, they tied for 12th place, eight shots off the lead.
