For the first time, the Championship at Lynchburg and Bedford County, Virginia, on the same pair of courses used for the 2024 PDGA Pro World Championships.

Competition will take place at an updated New London Tech for rounds 1 and 2 (Thursday & Friday) and Ivy Hill Golf Club for the final two rounds (Saturday & Sunday), adding tactical variety to the event. 2025 DGPT Championship: Format, Field, and What’s at Stake

Here’s how you can catch all the action this weekend…

WEATHER THIS WEEKEND

The 2025 Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship in Lynchburg, VA, is set for a beautiful stretch of fall weather to close out the season. Highs will sit comfortably in the upper 60s to low 70s on Thursday and Friday before warming into the mid-to-upper 70s for the weekend. Conditions look dry across the board, with only a slight chance of a light shower Sunday afternoon. Winds will gradually shift from the north early in the tournament to a southerly breeze by Sunday, when it’s expected to be the windiest day. Players and fans can expect crisp mornings—especially Thursday—but plenty of pleasant afternoons for championship-caliber disc golf.

For any weather-related updates, delays, or safety information, be sure to check the Event Status Updates page.

DGPT CHAMPIONSHIP FPO LOOKAHEAD

FPO1 Feature Card: Missy Gannon, Ohn Scoggins, Silva Saarinen, & Holyn Handley
FPO2 Feature Card: Ella Hansen, Valerie Mandujano, Paige Pierce, & Kat Mertsch

Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:

1️⃣ Missy Gannon’s Three-peat Bid

Missy Gannon arrives with the chance to become the first woman to win the DGPT Championship three straight years.

She took the title in 2023 as the #2 seed and in 2024 as the #1 seed.
Her cumulative Tour Championship earnings already total $121,350.
Coming off her Throw Pink victory, she holds momentum heading into Lynchburg.

Can she parlay her recent form, tournament history, and stroke-advantage into a rare three-peat?

2️⃣ Holyn Handley’s Season Capstone

As the #1 seed and holder of the largest stroke advantage, Holyn Handley arrives with high expectations. But she’s yet to win a Tour Championship, despite past season performances:

She leads the field in wins (4, tied), podiums (10), Top-10s (17), and Top-20s (18).
She has a mixed record at the Tour Championship: 2022 (eliminated in semis), 2023 (missed cut despite advantage), 2024 (finished 7th).
She has shown strong play on these courses — she held the lead entering the final round at the 2024 Pro Worlds on these layouts.

A win here would not only validate her season but erase her “unfinished business” narrative at the Tour Championship.

3️⃣ The Player of the Year Trophy Hangs in the Balance

With multiple players having multiple wins in 2025 (most notably Handley, Gannon, Saarinen, and Scoggins), the Tour Championship may decide who claims FPO Player of the Year.

Three of those multiple winners also have a Major under their belt.
A strong finish or a win could swing the title in a tight race.
Many of the competitors also come in hot — 45% of the field (9 of 20) already have at least one Majors/Elite Series win this season — making it a very deep and competitive field.

Expect high-stakes action as the DGPT Championship weekend shapes the FPO Player of the Year race.

4️⃣ Course Familiarity & Layouts Favoring the Proven

This is the first time the DGPT Championship is in Lynchburg, but these venues are not new to high-level play as both hosted the 2024 Pro Worlds. That said, half of New London Tech is new, after construction at the park impacted the course in 2024. The new layout is in line with the initial intent that Paul McBeth had when designing the course: to make a technical wooded track that challenges the best in the game. While some of the holes are new, the overall design philosophy remains intact.

New London Tech (Rounds 1–2) and Ivy Hill (Rounds 3–4) demand precise shot-making, placement, and adaptability as conditions (especially wind) shift through the weekend.
Course records from 2024 indicate scoring possibilities: New London (-10, 59) by Handley; Ivy Hill (-6, 63) by Lätt / Jennifer Allen.
Players who knew these layouts in Worlds will have an edge — those comfortable with elevation changes, risk lines, and wind will likely rise.

Because the format gives stroke advantages, those who combine course knowledge with consistency may pull ahead when it counts.

5️⃣ Rise of New Faces & Deep Field Pressure

Notably, nine of the 20 participants did not play at the 2024 Tour Championship, including six first-time qualifiers such as Cadence Burge, Madison Walker, and Sofia Donnecke. Their presence underlines the increasing depth of the FPO field.

Other names to keep in mind:

Ohn Scoggins, a three-time runner-up in the Tour Championship, seeks her first win on this stage.
Silva Saarinen, proven with four wins this year, is a threat to upset.
Ella Hansen, Paige Pierce, and Kat Mertsch each bring experience and shot-making that can turn final-round swings.

With more new and hungry players than ever, the pressure will be high — and the leaderboard dynamic may shift dramatically each round.

DGPT CHAMPIONSHIP MPO LOOKAHEAD

MPO1 Feature Card: Isaac Robinson, Calvin Heimburg, Gannon Buhr, & Paul McBeth
MPO2 Feature Card: Ricky Wysocki, Anthony Barela, Kyle Klein, & Ezra Robinson

Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:

1️⃣ Gannon Buhr’s Historic Season Meets Its Final Test

At just 20 years old, Gannon Buhr has already crafted one of the greatest single seasons in modern disc golf. His six Major and Elite Series wins, 13 podiums, and an average round rating of 1060.3 — tied for the highest in PDGA history — have cemented his position as the sport’s new measuring stick.

Buhr’s consistency has been staggering: top 10 in every start, a second straight DGPT Points title, and a dominant average finish of 3.85. Now, he arrives in Lynchburg not just as the defending Tour Champion, but as the favorite to repeat — something only two other MPO players have ever done; Ricky Wysocki (2022 and 2023) and Chris Dickerson (2018 and 2019).

The question is whether Buhr can sustain his precision and poise at a venue that demands both. With the format giving him a head start , the odds favor another Buhr showcase — but pressure at the Tour finale is unlike any other. This year, Buhr’s advantage will be smaller as compared to 2024. He will start at -8, down two strokes from -10 in 2024. What’s more, the next seven players behind him start at most only three strokes back. With a tighter spread of starting strokes, more players are within striking distance.

2️⃣ Ricky Wysocki’s Quest for a Fourth Title

Few players have a stronger bond with the Tour Championship than Richard Wysocki. The three-time winner (2017, 2022, 2023) has built a legacy of postseason excellence — but 2025 has been a statistical anomaly for the veteran. Despite six podiums, he’s yet to win a single Major or Elite event this season.

Wysocki has historically thrived under pressure, and the Lynchburg layout suits his well-rounded game. With experience on both New London Tech and Ivy Hill from the 2024 PDGA World Championships, he enters with course familiarity and a chance to become the first four-time DGPT Champion.

For a player who’s built a career on clutch performances, there may be no better opportunity to remind the field why he remains one of the all-time greats.

3️⃣ Barela’s Breakthrough and the Major Moment

After years of promise, Anthony Barela finally delivered on the biggest stage with his first Pro Major win at the 2025 USDGC — a defining moment in yet another breakout season. With six previous DGPT Championship starts and an 18th place finish in 2024, Barela now enters with real momentum and belief.

His power game and improved mental composure have made him one of the Tour’s most dangerous players. A strong finish in Lynchburg would cap a career year that saw him surpass $87,000 in PDGA earnings and solidify his place among the elite tier of contenders.

If Buhr’s season was about dominance, Barela’s has been about growth — and in these last two seasons, the Arizona bomber has proven he’s more than just potential.

4️⃣ Heimburg’s Steady Excellence, Still Seeking a Signature Win

Another year, another campaign of quiet excellence for Calvin Heimburg, especially with taking down his first Pro Major at the 2025 European Disc Golf Festival — but still no DGPT Championship victory to show for it. The two-time runner-up (2019, 2024) finished the regular season second in Tour points and had 18 top-10 finishes in 20 events.

Heimburg’s control-first style could thrive in the calm early rounds at New London Tech, but he’ll need to maintain momentum once winds shift on Sunday. Known for his ability to stay near the top without faltering, Heimburg now faces the familiar challenge of translating consistency into a defining victory.

A win in Lynchburg would end one of disc golf’s most persistent narratives — and finally deliver the title that his steady excellence has long indicated is coming.

5️⃣ New Names, New Stage — The Next Wave Arrives

This year’s field features nine players who didn’t compete at the 2024 Tour Championship, including six first-time qualifiers such as Sullivan Tipton, Paul Krans, and Lauri Lehtinen. Their inclusion highlights just how much depth the MPO field has gained over the past two seasons.

Names like Ezra Aderhold and Cole Redalen join the mix after breakout years that saw both capture Elite Series wins, while veterans like Eagle McMahon and Chris Dickerson look to reclaim relevance on a stage they once dominated.

With the Tour Championship celebrating its 10th anniversary, the blend of new blood and old guard will make this one of the most unpredictable finales yet.
