Major championships have a way of making golf companies reach for the special-edition box, but no brand has consistently added more details, symbolism and work to its major championship drops over the years as TaylorMade, and this collection continues that tradition.
The company’s new Sailor’s Point Collection includes a staff bag ($699.99), driver and putter headcovers ($79.99), fairway wood and rescue headcovers ($69.99) and TP5 and TP5x pix golf balls ($64.99) that feature special patterns. Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa and other TaylorMade staff players are expected to use the staff bag and headcovers during U.S. Open week, which means there should be plenty of navy-and-white stripes getting camera time between gusts of wind and grimaces over missed fairways.
The staff bag is the centerpiece, and it leans hard into the seafaring feel of the Northeast coast. It is wrapped in navy and white sailor stripes, features an intricately designed crab and has a lighthouse handle that nods to nearby Montauk Point, the easternmost tip of Long Island. However, the best little detail might be on the side panels, where colorful signal flags run diagonally across the bag. They are not just decoration, and most people won’t get the message, but the flags are pulled from the International Code of Signals and they spell T-A-Y-L-O-R-M-A-D-E.
The headcovers keep the story moving. The driver headcover is “the captain,” a weathered mariner in a yellow fishing slicker, knit cap and pipe. It gives the impression of someone who has seen a few things out at sea and probably complained about the brutal conditions for decades. The fairway wood headcover gives a nod to the area’s whaling history, with whales moving across debossed waves and a compass detail. The hybrid headcover focuses on Montauk Point Lighthouse, the red-and-white landmark that has helped guide sailors since 1797.

The putter covers stay on theme, too. The blade cover features a ship’s wheel and more TaylorMade-spelling signal flags, while the mallet cover brings back the crab motif and adds a red-and-white interior.
The TP5 and TP5x pix balls finish the collection with anchors, captain’s wheels, seahorses, fish and lighthouses, all packed in a commemorative box. Performance-wise, they remain TP5 and TP5x balls. Visually, they are ready for the Hamptons.
