The Travelers Championship released its official field of committed players on Friday night, and as impressive as the list was, it was without one of the biggest names in golf: Rory McIlroy.

Although suspected, it became official that McIlroy, the No. 2 player in the world, would be skipping Connecticut’s PGA Signature Event after the U.S. Open. He is one of only two top 10 players not playing in the Travelers, Thursday-Sunday at TPC River Highlands. The other is Jon Rahm, who is ineligible as an LIV Tour member.

McIlroy has played the Travelers six times in his career, including tying for seventh in 2025 and has never finished better than tied for seventh. He made his first appearance in 2017, finishing tied for 17th. He has since played in 2018, ’20, ’22, ’23 and ’25.

The 37-year-old six-time major champion has had an up-and-down relationship with the event that traditionally follows the grind that is the U.S. Open.

In 2024 he pulled out of his commitment the Monday after the Open, but in 2025 arrived in Connecticut seemingly happy to move past the Open at the Oakmont Country Club outside of Pittsburgh, where he finished 7-over par.

“This is the perfect sort of chaser for what Oakmont was last week, and nice to get out on a golf course where you feel you can make quite a few birdies,” McIlroy told the media on the eve of last year’s tournament.

Among the notables in this year’s field are defending champion Keegan Bradley, No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, No. 3 Cameron Young, No. 4 Matt Fitzpatrick and No. 5 Russell Henley.
