CROMWELL – The golf course at TPC River Highlands was soft and ready for low scores in the second round of the Travelers Championship, and Scottie Scheffler made the most of it.

The world’s No. 1-ranked player, who won the tournament in 2024, tied the record for the best second round ever at the Travelers when he shot 10-under-par 60 with 11 birdies and just one hiccup, a missed 6-foot putt on No. 2, that resulted in a bogey.

Scheffler’s 60 ties Tommy Bolt’s second round in 1954 and Patrick Cantlay’s in 2011. Five players have shot a 60 in the tournament’s history, including Mackenzie Hughes in the first round in 2020, Denny McCarthy in the first round in 2023 and Rickie Fowler in the third round in 2023.

Jim Furyk’s 12-under-par 58 in the final round of the 2016 tournament stands as the best in the history of the tournament. Only Furyk and Cameron Young, who shot a 59 in the third round in 2024, have shot below 60.

Scheffler has finished in the top 15 at the Travelers Championship every year since 2022. His previous best round came to start last year’s tournament, when he shot 8-under-par 62 in the first round.

The 20-time PGA Tour winner and four-time major champion hit 13 of 14 fairways and reached 16 of 18 greens in regulation on Friday. After shooting 6-under-64 in Thursday’s first round, Scheffler leads the field at 16-under.
