The second-annual Tyson Leonard Memorial Golf Tournament was held June 2 at Cross Creek Country Club and drew a large turnout.

Tyson and his brother Mike founded Leonard Aluminum Utility Buildings, now Leonard Truck Outfitters, in 1964. They grew the company to more than 400 employees across five states by the time Tyson retired in 2015.

Tyson Leonard passed away in January 2020.

Wilburn Tilley, a longtime employee of Leonard, organized the memorial tournament to honor his legacy.

“I hosted the initial golf tournament in 2025 to honor Mr. Leonard and unite current and former employees, friends and family,” Tilley said. “The event was such a success, with everyone having a great time and expressing interest in making it an annual affair.”

Tilley, his wife, Ava, and son, Brandon, have a combined 100-plus years of experience with Leonard.

“It was like a family for a lot of people,” Tilley said.

More than 60 people attended the 2026 memorial tournament, consisting of family, friends and former employees.

Attendees shared funny stories and memories of Tyson Leonard during the lunch buffet. Former Leonard CEO David O’Neal served as master of ceremonies for the event.

“Tyson Leonard was quite a character, and anyone that had ever met him had a story about him,” Tilley said.

Helen Leonard, Tyson’s sister-in-law, even wrote a book about him: “The Ultimate High Roller: Memoirs of Tyson Leonard.”

The tournament began following lunch, with nine foursomes competing in the captain’s choice event.

Jared Moser, Nolan Moser, Will Jacobs and Derick Davis won the tournament by shooting 56, or 16-under par.

The last-place team was presented the “Concrete Head” award, a reference to a cinder block Tyson Leonard kept in his office.

Will Jacobs won the closest-to-the-hole contest on the par-3 10th hole after hitting his tee shot within 3 feet of the cup.

Following the tournament, attendees participated in a raffle for prizes donated by Leonard Truck Outfitters and several vendors.

During his time leading the company, Tyson Leonard often held golf tournaments, company picnics and special trips for his employees. The Tyson Leonard Memorial Golf Tournament is just one way Tilley continues to honor his former boss.
