McIlroy’s sweet blunder

Golf icon Rory McIlroy became the focus of an unexpected talking point while watching Wimbledon alongside his wife, Erica Stoll. Fresh from claiming his second Masters title, the Northern Irishman was seen following the matches from the prestigious Royal Box with several of his European Ryder Cup team-mates.

His conduct soon attracted attention after television cameras captured a playful but mischievous exchange during the contest. As a bucket of sweets made its way around the exclusive seating section, McIlroy seemed to pull it away just before his wife had the chance to take one.

The moment was quickly spotted by BBC presenter Clare Balding, who wasted no time highlighting it during the live broadcast. She exclaimed: “Erica then! She’s just about to take one and he rips it away!”

Djokovic calls out McIlroy

After sealing a straightforward second-round win against Stefanos Tsitsipas on Centre Court, Novak Djokovic paused his on-court interview to acknowledge McIlroy, who was sitting in the crowd wearing his famous Green Jacket, instantly catching the eye of the Serbian great.

Djokovic praised the Ryder Cup star for completing the career Grand Slam before humorously inviting him to settle ownership of the jacket with a tennis match on grass. The world No. 7 said he admired the iconic garment and jokingly suggested a winner-takes-all showdown.

“Rory, what a beautiful jacket. Is that a Masters jacket? It must be. Round of applause for Rory for the Masters, please. I want that jacket. I’ll play you. This jacket for that jacket, we’ll play tennis! No golf,” Djokovic laughed.

Dress code violation

Spain’s Jessica Bouzas came under scrutiny from tournament officials despite recording an impressive opening-round success. The 23-year-old earned a comfortable victory over Anastasia Potapova on Court 17 before spending several minutes in conversation with the chair umpire.

She received a firm warning after officials noticed an apparent breach of Wimbledon’s renowned all-white dress code. During the closing stages of the match, part of a black undershirt had become visible on the lower section of her back.

Speaking afterwards, Bouzas acknowledged that officials at SW19 enforce the dress code extremely rigorously and said the issue would need to be resolved before her next appearance. “A problem here is that they are very strict with many things,” she told Movistar Plus Deportes.

“I think it was a bit of black here, and you can’t do that, so I will have to sort it out. But yes, they are very strict with things like this, so now I’ll see how I can fix it.”
