The Genesis Scottish Open attracted record crowds 12 months ago to The Renaissance Club near North Berwick with nearly 90,000 golf fans packing the fairways and grandstands in East Lothian.

The 88,735 figure smashed the previous high of 76, 024 at The Renaissance Club in 2024 and eclipsed the largest recorded crowd for the event, a total of 85,921 who attended at Loch Lomond when the event was held there in 2009. Tickets for this year start at £40.

Chris Gotterup won the title for the first time last year in his sixth DP World Tour event. The American was tied with former Scottish Open winner, Rory McIlroy, at the top of the leader board when he teed-off in his final round, but he kept his cool to card 66 and triumph by two shots.

The American, now No 13 in the world, then recorded a career-best, third-place finish in a Major when he played in the Open Championship seven days later.

McIlroy, the world No 2, who won here in 2023, has confirmed he will be back and world No 1, Scottie Scheffler, is also booked in for the four days on the par 70 (out 35, in 35), course which measures 7,282 yards (6,659 metres).

Incidentally, the longest hole is the 600-yard, 12th, (549m) with the testing first measuring 594 yards (543m).

Six of the top ten in the world are set to tee-it-up at the course from July 9 to 12 and they include Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm and Wyndham Clark, the recent winner of the US Open.

Former trophy winners Xander Schauffele (2022), Aaron Rai (2020) and Scottish-born, Robert MacIntyre (2024), plus Major champions, Justin Thomas and J J Spaun, will also be there along with Major winners, Shane Lowry, Adam Scott and Francesco Molinari.

Bruce Koepka, a five-time Major winner, returns to the event for the first time in 11 years and Patrick Reed, the current leader in The Race to Dubai, will be there and he hopes to land his second Rolex Series win of the season.

The East Lothian venue, designed by coarse architect, Tom Doak, is hosting the prestige even for the eighth straight season and it is the first event in the Closing Swing, the fifth and final Global Swing on the DP World Tour.

Sponsors are Genesis, the luxury car brand from South Korea, who will remain a partner until 2030 after putting pen to paper on an eight-year deal.
