Canebrake Golf Club hosts watch party for Lee Hodges

  • July 6, 2026

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – The Canebrake Golf Club hosted a watch party for Lee Hodges competing the in the John Deere Classic.

Members were on the edge of their seats Sunday watching Hodges in the final round.

Hodges entered the final round tied for first place at sixteen-under.

“I’m sure it’s a lot higher for us than it is for him,” Samford golfer Nolen Wolfe said. “I mean, he’s been there before. Obviously, it’d be cool to get it done again. But, yeah, I mean, we’re all just super excited and hopefully he gets it done.”

As a part owner of Canebrake Golf Club, Hodges is always around.

“Growing up here, Lee’s probably the best player to ever come out of this golf club,” Alabama golfer Jack Mitchell said. “We all looked up to him being young junior golfers when he was in college and getting his pro career started. He’s just been a great role model for us younger golfers.”

Hodges earned his full PGA Tour card with his first tour victory at the 3M Open back in 2023.

“It’s exciting,” Former Calhoun College golfer Carter Pettey said. “It just kind of makes me think about a couple years ago when he got his first win, and just super happy for him.”

Hodges played at Ardmore High School, where he won a state title. He went on to play collegiately at UAB and the University of Alabama.

“Growing up we see him,” Cumberland golfer Patrick Chesnut said. “It’s really a reflection of a lot of hard work. We get to see that hard work, and we get to see it pay off. Growing up, that has been just something really awesome to see and inspires all of us to where you can go.”

Hodge is continuing to inspire the next generation of golfers.

“It motivates me,” Canebrake golfer Waylon Preston said. “I need to go out there and practice more so I can be out there on the TV one day.”

Hodges finished the tournament tied for third place at eighteen-under. He finished two strokes behind first place.
