One Tracy golfer will advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters golf tournament next week, following his team’s performance at the SJS Division 5 tournament on Monday at Micke Grove Golf Links in Lodi.
Thomas Graham of Tracy, a freshman at Ripon Christian High, is a member of the Ripon Christian team that placed first at the Division 5 tournament with a score of 383. The first-place finish qualifies the entire team for the Masters tournament, to be held at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton on Tuesday, May 19.
Graham shot 74 on the par-72 course, which put him in a tie for sixth-place overall. His teammate, Hudson Schenk, tied for first place as an individual with a score of 68, which included six birdies for the day.
SJS Division 1
Kimball High golfer Zakariya Shalizi just missed qualifying for the Masters tournament, shooting 78 on the par 72 Rancho Murieta Country Club on Monday in the SJS Division 1 tournament. That left him just two strokes shy of qualifying as one of the top nine individual golfers who will advance to Masters.
Shalizi and teammate Rayden Vierra, who shot 105 on Monday, were among the at-large golfers in the Division 1 tournament, as was Tracy High’s Hayden Thein, who shot 91 on Monday. The individual champion was Luke Harrison of Pleasant Grove High, shooting 69.
Six full teams advance to Masters, including Division 1 champion Jesuit (370), Granite Bay (390), Rocklin (390), Franklin of Elk Grove (394), Davis (397) and Pleasant Grove (397). The nine at-large individuals advancing all shot 76 or better.
