Aaron Rai finished tied for 47th place when he played in the Genesis Scottish Open last year, and he is hopeful of improving on that this week when the tournament begins on Thursday.
The 31-year-old tied for fourth in the event two years ago but won in 2020, the first year it was held in East Lothian.
However, knows how to win big events having recently won the $20,500,000 PGA Championship in mid-May at Aronimink Golf Club.
The English golfer (pictured at the media briefing at The Renaissance) finished on minus nine thanks to a final round of five-under, beating Spanish golfer, Jon Rahm, by three shots, shooting him into the world spotlight.
Wolverhampton-born Rai said that winning a Major has made his life different outside the tour but he added: “Everybody has a huge respect for each other (inside the tour).”
It has overall, he said, been “an encouraging year” for the English professional.
He told the world’s media that he enjoys links golf and The Renaissance Cub course “demands a lot” and he admitted: “It asks questions.”
Rai said there are particular challenges to links golf and, looking ahead to The Open at Birkdale next week, the Major winner revealed that he played the course last week as he prepares for another big event.
