PADUCAH, KY — The dream for every kid growing up playing golf is to one day become a professional, a dream that Jay Nimmo is currently living.
The Marshall County and Murray State alum turned pro earlier this year and has since been traveling the country trying to carve his own path.
And it’s a path that has shown how tough it can be to compete with the best the game has to offer.
“It’s hard,” Nimmo said. “To be honest I’ve played some good golf the last month or two, and honestly haven’t gotten the results that I’ve felt like I have deserved.”
Nimmo has spent most of his time competing on mini-tours and individual professional tournaments. His biggest challenge will come later this year when he attempts to earn a spot on the Korn Ferry Tour through Q-School.
“I’ve played good enough,” Nimmo said. “Just have to keep staying patient. Everybody is capable of playing good golf. Just got to make sure my good golf is at the right time.”
For Nimmo, his expectations for his career might be higher than others. During his amateur career he captured two high school state titles and to many to count tournaments at the junior level.
It might be harder at this level, but a challenge he says he is ready for.
“The beginning of everyone’s journey is fun and full of learning,” he said. “The learning process and getting better as we go is what is most fun.”
Up next for Nimmo, he will compete in the Irvin Cobb Championships, a tournament he has won as an amateur, and the Kentucky Open Championship.
