Fans head to Hurstbourne Country Club for Round 1 of ISCO Championship
SEAT BELTS. WE HAVE A CREW LOOKING INTO THIS, AND WE’LL HAVE MUCH MORE TONIGHT AT 11. WELL, THIS MORNING, 144 PGA TOUR PLAYERS BEGAN THEIR QUEST FOR THE 2026 CHAMPIONSHIP. THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR THE EVENT HAS BEEN HELD AT HURSTBOURNE COUNTRY CLUB. SAM CARTER WAS THERE THIS MORNING TALKING TO THE FANS, CATCHING SOME OF THAT EARLY ACTION. THEY’RE JUST ENJOYING A BEAUTIFUL DAY ON THE COURSE OR TRYING TO PICK UP A FEW TIPS. GUESTS HERE AT THE COCO CHAMPIONSHIPS ALL HAD THEIR REASON TO SPEND THE DAY AT HURSTBOURNE. THE CHAMPIONSHIP IS UNDERWAY AT HURSTBOURNE COUNTRY CLUB, AND WHILE THE FIELD ISN’T AS STAR STUDDED AS AN EVENT LIKE, SAY, THE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP FOR YOUNG MEN LIKE LANDON KELLER, CALEB KITZINGER AND CALEB QUEEN, THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF FUTURE STAR POWER. I LIKE WATCHING MILES RUSSELL AND JACKSON CORBIN SORT OF RISING STARS. THEY’RE JUST SO GOOD. IT’S SUCH A YOUNG AGE. AS THE DAY WORE ON, FANS WHO KNOW HER SPORT ON A TYPICAL DAY ON THE COURSE WERE EXCITED TO SEE WHAT THE MAKEUP OF THE GROUNDS WOULD BE FOR CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF. SOME OF THE GRANDSTANDS UP AND THE SCOREBOARDS AND JUST THE ROPES OF IT. BUT, YOU KNOW, IT’S I THINK THE COURSE IS A LITTLE MORE CHALLENGING NOW THAN YOUR TYPICAL. PROBABLY THE MEMBERS SEE IT. FOR SOME, LIKE OUR TRIO OF YOUNG GOLFERS WHO, BY THE WAY, ARE COMING OFF A KENTUCKY STATE MIDDLE SCHOOL GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP THIS WEEK, IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN HOW THE PROS APPROACH THE GAME. JUST KIND OF LEARN WHAT THEY DO IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, HOW THEY JUST MOVE ON AFTER A BAD SHOT, LIKE US AMATEURS, WE KIND OF LET THAT IMPACT US IN THE NEXT COUPLE HOLES. The first round of the ISCO Championships teed off at Hurstbourne Country Club Thursday morning.While the field of 144 golfers is not as star-studded as it would be for an event like the PGA Championship, players like Caleb Gitzinger were there to see some of the stars of tomorrow.”I like watching Miles Russell and Jackson Coiven, sort of rising stars; they are just so good at such a young age,” Gitzinger said.Others, like Brad Martin, were at the tournament to see how the grounds have been prepped for championship golf.”To see some of the grandstands up and the scoreboards, just the ropes of it,” Martin said. “I think the course is probably more challenging now than the members see it.”On course Thursday morning was youth golfer Landon Keller, who is looking to pick up some tips on the mental side of the game.”You learn what they do in certain circumstances,” Keller said. “How they just kind of move on after a bad shot. We amateurs let that impact us over the next couple of holes.” The ISCO Championship continues Friday and Saturday, with the championship round on Sunday.
