Shane Lowry had a hilarious reaction to seeing Rory McIlroy reach the green with his tee shot on the Par 4 14th hole at the Scottish Open.

It was a day to forget for the 2019 Open winner, who missed the cut ahead of this weekend’s action at the Renaissance Club.

The Offaly man would finish -1 but it was not enough as he joined U.S Senior Open winner Padraig Harrington in an early exit.

McIlroy, however, is right in the mix and finds himself tied at the top of the leaderboard alongise Tom Kim.

The Masters champion has been playing some electric golf on a weekend where main rival Scottie Scheffler missed the cut.

It is the first time the World Number One and reigning Open champion missed the mark in four years, a remarkable streak.

McIlroy was dialled in and arguably his best shot of the day came on the 14th, when he nailed a dart which found its way to the green.

It was the perfect drive and surprised everyone standing on the 14th green, including Lowry who had been playing ahead of his Ryder Cup teammate.

Lowry stood near as the ball found the green, and jokingly gestured as if he was going to smash the ball away from where it landed.

McIlroy shot 66 and is hoping to add some silverware before the major action next week when The Open is played out at Royal Birkdale.
