Harry Kane has described his round of golf with Donald Trump as a “pretty surreal experience” as England gear up for their World Cup quarter-final showdown against Norway.
The England skipper revealed he took up an invitation from the US President for a round in Florida 18 months ago, after Trump publicly heaped praise on the Bayern Munich frontman earlier this week.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash in Miami, Kane said: “When the President invites you somewhere, it was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and obviously play golf with him.
“His golf is pretty good, to be honest with you. I hope I can play golf as good as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure.
“A unique experience, but I was just grateful that he invited me to play.”
Trump had previously told reporters: “I think Kane is a great player. I played golf with him and I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer too. He’s really great.”
England manager Thomas Tuchel, meanwhile, called on his squad to show real courage as they look to book their place in the World Cup semi-finals.
Having scraped through a nail-biting last-16 win over Mexico, Tuchel insisted his players must now “be on the front foot and be brave”.
“We need to be brave now,” he said.
“It’s quarter-finals and the brave will have the luck on their side. We cannot have any regrets when we play a quarter-final. We have to go for it.”
England face Norway at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, with Erling Haaland set to lead the line for the Scandinavian outfit.
