HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) – The RBC Heritage golf tournament continues Wednesday with round 1 of the Pro-Am event teeing off at 7 a.m.
The Pro-Am is considered the “fun” day before the main competition kicks off Thursday. Amateur players will team up with the professionals to play the course here at Harbor Town Golf Links.
Tuesday, the RBC Heritage began with the opening ceremony and practice rounds. Last year’s champion, Justin Thomas hit the ceremonial tee shot before a parade strolled through the area.
Excitement has been building for months in anticipation of this week’s golf competition on Hilton Head Island.
The RBC Heritage is South Carolina’s only event on the PGA Tour.
Fans not only get to see top ranked golfers like Scottie Scheffler play to win the signature tartan jacket and 20-million-dollar purse, but they’ll also get to enjoy the scenery and festive atmosphere at Harbor Town.
Attendees like Deanna Frank said those are just a few reason that keep her coming back to the event.
“It’s an amazing place. I’ve golfed this course. It’s beautiful. The fields always great. The views are spectacular,” said Frank.
Volunteerism is a large part of what makes this event successful with over 1,7000 volunteers planned to work throughout the tournament.
The annual tournament is expected to generate close to $135 million for the local economy and draw approximately 120,000 spectators to the area.
“We know that tourism is our economic driver, and we’ve got a lot of people that come in. They started coming a little bit earlier this year because Easter was earlier, so we’ve seen a big influx,” said Alan Perry, Mayor of Hilton Head Island. “But, it’s exciting, right. We know that we’re going to have a great year, and Hilton Head is beautiful. The town has done an amazing job at cleaning everything up, so it’s good.”
Since 1987, $61.8 million have been distributed to charities in South Carolina and Georgia. Over $4 million were distributed to organizations, college scholarships and more last year alone.
The 2026 RBC Heritage runs through Sunday, April 19. WTOC have live coverage all week and weekend long.
