CROMWELL, Conn. (WFSB) – Cromwell town leaders have given their community a new nickname, inspired by comments actor Will Ferrell made about the town at the Travelers Championship.
Ferrell called Cromwell “the Paris of Connecticut” during a recent appearance at the golf tournament.
“Cromwell is like the Paris of Connecticut, and it’s just the architecture, the people, the food. It’s glorious,” Ferrell said.
Town leaders have since installed a new digital billboard outside ShopRite Plaza bearing the phrase “Cromwell: The Paris of Connecticut.” The sign also features a baguette, the Eiffel Tower and a depiction of a Frenchman.
Cromwell Town Manager Anthony Salvatore said the sign reflects both civic pride and a sense of humor.
“We got a lot going on. We are very proud to be the home of the Travelers Championship. Love the idea that Will Ferrell did mention us,” Salvatore said.
Salvatore said the response from residents and visitors has been positive.
“We think this was really exciting. We thought we had some fun, and we are getting the comments, and people seem to love it,” he said.
The billboard is located at the intersection of Route 3 and Route 372.
