MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A Memphis non-profit that stocks school supply closets for students in need is hosting its first-ever golf tournament to raise money to open another location.
“On the Green,” the Dennis Price Jr Golf Classic, tees off Saturday, Aug. 1 at The Links at Pine Hill in South Memphis. The event is open to solo golfers, groups and spectators.

The Dennis Price Junior Foundation was created in memory of Dennis Price Jr., a standout athlete at Ridgeway High School who died from an undiagnosed heart condition in 2013.

His parents, Dennis Price Sr. and Tracy Price, run the foundation.
The foundation currently operates four DJ’s Care Closets—at Ridgeway Middle School, Westwood High School, Geeter K-8 and Fairley High School.
The closets provide school supplies, new clothing and personal hygiene items free to students in need.
“For me, this has become a ministry. It’s not just a hobby; it’s a ministry. It’s God’s work,” Tracy said.
Tournament details
The foundation has set a fundraising goal of $25,000 and is seeking 120 golfers — the capacity at Pine Hill.
“We sat down with the board and came up with the decision — $25,000 would be the goal,” Dennis Price Sr. said. “We want 120 golfers. That’s the max that Pine Hill can do.”
Registration fees are as follows:
- Solo golfer: $125
- Party of four: $500
- Spectators: $25
Breakfast, lunch and complimentary drinks will be provided. Contest prizes are available for both players and spectators.
Money raised will fund the opening of an additional DJ’s Care Closet.
Dennis said demand for the closets has grown significantly.

“It’s a joy to go to the school, and they already know who we are and they know the possibility of what we’re there for,” he said. “Everybody wants a DJ’s Care Closet. We have a list of 203 schools, I think now.”
