Repeated vandalism at Cranberry Hills Golf Course
CHAMPION TWP. – Police in Champion Township are investigating after several golf carts and parts of the green at the Cranberry Hills Golf Course were vandalized. This is the third incident similar to this that has occurred within the last two weeks.
Steve Welch, the golf course’s owner, told police that eight golf carts, as well as the green on the fourth hole, were damaged or destroyed sometime before the morning of Wednesday, July 29.
Police say the carts were scattered about the golf course, with all of them sustaining damage, including flat tires, damaged bumpers, broken or missing fenders and torn seats.
All eight carts are out of commission, four are unable to be repaired.
“This is just malicious criminal stuff they’re doing.” Welch said “It’s heartbreaking.”
Pictures sent to 21 News show tire marks all over the green. Welch says it will take about a year before hole 4 is able to be played again.
Welch tells 21 News it is hard to put an exact price on the damage, but he estimates it to be around $40,000.
Welch says eight golf carts are currently unusable, but the golf course is still open with 22 carts still in commission.
Champion Police has not yet identified any suspects. Welch guessed the same group of people are the culprits for all three incidents.
