Only two events remain in the PGA Tour’s regular season and the first of those two is this week at the Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club, where a solid field will play for $10 million with the winner taking home $1.8 million.
Last week’s winner of the 3M Open, Jackson Koivun, is back to attempt to add to his haul and improve his standing toward the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He’s at 70th right now in the standings, the last spot that would get into the playoffs.
The man Koivun topped, Scottie Scheffler, is not in Detroit but there are four of the top-10 players in the world on hand, including Cameron Young (3), Russel Henley (5), Chris Gotterup (7), and Wyndham Clark (9). Aldrich Potgieter is the defending champion in this, the last time the event will be played as sponsorship has come to an end.
Young is playing here for the fourth time and he tied for second place four years ago. Si Woo Kim, Akshay Bhatia, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele and Jordan Spieth are other notables in the field. Brooks Koepka was in but he withdrew earlier in the week, making his playoff hopes unlikely.
Next week is the Wyndham Championship, the final regular season event of the year.
Check back here Sunday after play is complete for updates.
