Sahith Theegala and Aaron Rai will lead the Indian-origin contingent at the Wyndham Championship this week, marking the final event of the PGA Tour’s regular season. Akshay Bhatia and Sudarshan Yellamaraju have chosen to skip the tournament to prepare for next week’s FedExCup Playoffs.

All four players have already qualified inside the top 70 in the FedExCup standings and are set to compete in the opening playoff event. The FedExCup Playoffs start with 70 players, narrowing to 50 for the second event and finally to 30 for the Tour Championship.

Theegala, aged 28, has returned strongly following an injury-affected 2025 season which caused him to miss the FedExCup Playoffs for the first time in his career. The Pepperdine University alumnus has regained his fitness and confidence, re-establishing himself as a consistent performer on the PGA Tour. The Californian, standing 6-foot-3, has also been motivated this season by his upcoming wedding.

His top results in 2026 include tied-8th place at The American Express, tied-7th at Farmers Insurance Open, tied-6th at Arnold Palmer Invitational, and tied-10th at Texas Children’s Houston Open. He also earned a tied-11th finish at the US Open.

Aaron Rai joins Theegala at Sedgefield Country Club, currently ranked 35th in the FedExCup standings, eight places ahead of Theegala. Rai returns to the event where he won the 2024 Wyndham Championship and added the PGA Championship title earlier this year, becoming the first British golfer in more than a century to win the PGA Championship and the first Indian-origin player to claim a men’s major championship.

Known for his amiable nature, Rai, married to Indian professional golfer Gaurika, will aim to maintain his momentum as the playoffs approach.

For Thursday’s opening round, Rai will tee off from the 10th alongside Tom Kim and J.T. Poston. Theegala is scheduled to start from the first tee, accompanied by rising star Jackson Koivun and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama.

While Theegala and Rai hold secure playoff positions, several top players arrive at the Wyndham Championship vying to prolong their seasons. These include 21-year-old Jackson Koivun, veteran Keegan Bradley, multiple major winner Brooks Koepka, former World No. 1 Jason Day, and Tony Finau.
