HERMON, Maine (WABI) – 140 golfers teed up Sunday morning in Hermon to support our four-legged friends looking for a home.
The 4th annual “Paws on the Green” is a fundraiser that began after two golf-loving volunteers started their own fundraiser to benefit the shelter.
Now, the event is paired with the Bangor Humane Society’s largest fundraiser, “Paws on Parade,” that benefits the nearly 2,000 animals they see each year.
Organizers said that the money raised stays local and helps with the cost of running the shelter and helping animals find their forever home.
“It’s just great to see so many diverse people. We don’t see a lot of the people who play in this tournament. So, this is a whole new group of people for us. Herman Meadows is amazing. The team here has helped us in every way, shape or form to make this a really good, successful day. We’re very much like other shelters. We’re blessed in that we do have a fantastic volunteer crew that help us and we are so supported by our community. to make sure that those 2,000 plus animals that we rehome every year get the chance they deserve,” said Suzan Prendergast, Executive Director at the Bangor Humane Society.
