The PGA TOUR is ready to start the playoffs with a return to Memphis, Tennessee, for the annual stop at the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind. The playoff opener will start with the top 70 in the FedExCup standings and the top 50 in the standings will move on to next week’s BMW Championship in St. Louis. The event has served as the playoff opener since 2007 and has occurred at TPC Southwind since 2022.
The current playoff format is likely to be overhauled at the end of next season, and this event will not be part of the Championship series. It could still be part of the Challenger Series, although that has not been confirmed coming into the event. In the four years at TPC Southwind, the winners include Will Zalatoris, Lucas Glover, Hideki Matsuyama, and Justin Rose last year, who triumphed over J.J. Spaun in a playoff.
While watching the top of the leaderboard is always exciting, there’s another race to monitor this week as players look to move into the top 50 to advance to next week and secure entry into all of the 2027 Signature Events.
